MANITOWOC – Lakeside Foods has purchased the former Manitowoc Company office building at 2400 S. 44th St., the company announced Tuesday.

Manitowoc Company, which was founded in Manitowoc in 1902 and manufactures cranes, moved its headquarters out of the building and to northwest Milwaukee in 2018. It then sold the building to Manitowoc-based Investors Community Bank.

Lakeside Foods, a Manitowoc-based family-owned frozen and canned food retail supplier, purchased the office building from Nicolet Bank, which acquired Investors Community Bank in 2021.

Lakeside Foods plans to “make minor renovations,” including adding a “quality assurance lab,” according to a company press release. The company said it plans to move its corporate team to the new space in the spring.

“Manitowoc has been our home since our founding 135 years ago, and we have continued to invest in our presence here with expansions to our production and warehousing facilities,” said Lakeside Foods President and CEO. , Joe Yanda, in a statement. We are excited to invest in a larger space for our corporate staff, which has grown steadily as we have expanded our customer base and made many acquisitions.

Lakeside Foods has occupied its current location on Hamilton Street since 2000, when the company purchased the former City of Manitowoc Public Library. According to the press release, Lakeside Foods expanded its business and ran out of space in the building.

The company currently employs 149 people at its headquarters and expects the company to continue to grow, according to the press release.
